Web Designing – Delicate Relationship with the Visitors

Posted by Bryan Bell

It is said that it takes a long time to build a long lasting relationship. In comparison it hardly takes seconds to break the relationship. This implies that relationships are delicate in nature and this principle is applicable to the relationship between the website and the visitor. A single flaw and the visitor or buyer feels so bad that there are hardly any possibilities of him/her returning back to the website.

The delicacy or fragility of the relationship depends on a number of factors and exemplified in many cases.

One of the major factors is the feeling of the website going obsolete.

The earlier websites were designed with the help of HTML and / or Flash. The times and technology has changed drastically since then. The smart phones are fast replacing the laptops and desktop personal computers. This drastic change in the way people access the internet is one or the other way going to affect your online business. Now here comes the critical question. Is your website coded with the help of HTML and / or Flash compatible with the operating system and platform of the smart phone being used by the visitors to your website? If the website is not compatible, you are going to feel that the website has gone obsolete and you will try to get the website coded in the latest coding language available.

The other way of making the visitor feel that the functionality has gone obsolete is through limiting the time duration of the functionality. In some of the online games the player can proceed to the next level of the game only when he/she achieved a specific target in the current level and after having paid some money for the next level. When the player buys the access to the new level he/she feels that he/she has promoted self for a better challenge in the game. This sort of feeling strengthens the between the website and its user.

The big players in the smart phone industry can play with the users thoughts and make them feel that the current device that they are having has gone obsolete, even if it is working properly. Consider for example the mobile phone that you earlier had. Why did you buy the new model? Most of the times the answer to this question is that your friends and/or colleagues had the latest model and felt inferior when holding on to the older model. People when opting for the latest model usually find the older models outdated.

The feeling of anything going obsolete can be brought intentionally. This strategy is usually resorted to by the firms to sell their latest products.

When it is about websites the visitor should not feel that he/she is looking at an obsolete website. As mentioned earlier the relationship between the website and visitor is delicate and the moment this feeling sets in the visitor is going to hop on to another website. This can be the end of the relationship.
